It does indeed look like a Swainson's..and that would also solve my mystery.
I too have seen this bird in the salal bordering my yard, but because I had
not been hearing the telltale song I dismissed the Swainson's as a
choice....despite seeing them frequently over the 8 years I have lived in
this house. (DUH!)
