my wild birds tube feeder has been quite an attraction all year, and yet
some birds seem to go to extreme lengths to try for that extra little bit...

as an example, please note the black-capped chickadee i found INSIDE the
feeder about 15 minutes ago. yes, inside. while the tube is larger than
average, it's difficult for me to understand how master dee got him/herself
into the tube proper... what's probably worse is, while the food was only a
few inches away at times, several perch supports would make the acquisition
of said morsels a bit difficult.

even so, while i was attempting to extricate my guest from its temporary
condo, it alternately located itself on the highest support (about 1/2 inch
from the top) and the 2nd level (about 1 foot lower), so while the supports
were a hindrance, obviously they could be managed.

and yet, it is my considered opinion that master dee dee dee probably never
got a single chip whilst inside, and that seems a shame for the effort
expended... :)
