Hi Raymond,

I definitely can recommend the trip. The site is always open to the public. I
was up there last week but it was pretty slow. If a front moves through action
should pick up - but with the forecast right now that looks like it could be
Sunday or Monday. Maybe even Tuesday if its socked-in Monday.

The route from the Chelan side is definitely more pleasant. The Black
Canyon route to Methow isn't potholed but it is steeper and very
washboarded.

If you go, just watch for a big yurt (tent) set up next to the road. There is
also a sign and the flagged trail goes off to the right. The view last week
was nice, although hazy with the smoke of distant fires.

P.S. We saw several "Blue" Grouse on the Black Canyon approach -
presumably the Dusky half of the split. I have seen also seen Ruffed
Grouse on the Antoine Creek/Chelan apporach in the past.
