Subject: [Tweeters] Possible Spotted Owl - looking for help with ID

I was out owling last night near Elma and got a response at 3 different stops (not far apart) from the same bird/animal. I was using my own imitated pygmy-owl toot and western screech owl recordings. The response back was a short, high pitched, two note call that reminded me of something like a cow elk call. The response did move around as I moved further up the road. I have listened to many owl calls since last night and the only one that comes close is the Spotted Owl contact call. Habitat consisted of thick Douglas fir at medium age with alder interspersed in a sheltered creek valley not far from private residences.

I'm looking for alternatives if anyone has any. I don't have a recording of the response unfortunately.
