my wife and i went to view "the roosting" of the vaux's swifts thursday nite, sept 13th. we found a handful of other birders first-time to the viewing. we arrived by 6:45 pm and already saw a swirling of vaux's swifts just starting. the numbers continued to grow on and off in rather chaotic patters, reaching a maximum around 7:15 pm. this is when the locals arrived to view the birds. the descent into the chimney began about 7:30 pm. it was all pretty much over by 7:50 pm, except for a few stragglers.

one of the birders said that the vaux's swifts leave the chimney at 5 am.

this was quite a site!

good birding,
