Hi Ted, Tweets,
I believe that most of recommendations you've got were on
Nikon Coolpix series cameras, but later, if you will have an extra $ 200-300, do some experimenting with model Contax U4R made by Kyocera. This camera has genuine Carl Zeiss lens with their T* coating and it's aspheric glass elements can achieve better depth of field and thus make beautiful background pronounciation. The pictures don't look so flat like with some other point-shoot cameras. Sorry Canon.
I know, some Nikons, Olympus or new Panasonics equipped with Leica glass are good too, but if it comes to preserving an excellent quality of Swaro scope, not many models can do it better than Zeiss. Their lens could be find in some other brands like Sony, but those are not as good as in Contax U4R. Also, due to almost no shutter lag and less than a 1 second start up time, this was considered as the fastest camera for digiscoping. Only 4.1 Mp, but the color rendition, tack sharp images, internal 4x zoom, large swivel monitor will make up for "lack" of pixels. Now, here is the fun part : they don't make them anymore. You could find used one at online auctions, sometime. The ones who buy, they know why.

Best regards.
