After Jim Acton informed me that he had seen a Golden
Plover at Reardan Audubon Lake yesterday (9/20/07) and
again today (9/21/07), I dashed out there to take a
look myself. This pre-autumn day was full of glorious
sunshine and was mild and calm.

>From a vantage point on the southern shore of the lake
(west of the highway), the first bird that I focused
my scope on just happened to be an AMERICAN GOLDEN
PLOVER. Nice! The nice long primary extensions left no
doubt as to which species this bird belonged.

The Ame. Golden Plover favored the northeastern corner
near where there are white rods sticking up in the
water. Other shorebirds that were strung out thinly
along the shoreline included BLACK-BELLIED PLOVER - 1,
LONG-BILLED DOWITCHER - 10, KILLDEER, WILSON'S SNIPE
-1, and LESSER YELLOWLEGS -2. In addition, along the
hedgerow/fenceline, there was a MYRTLE WARBLER.

As another bird of interest, Jim Acton reported seeing
a LAPLAND LONGSPUR today along Ladd Road on the West
Plains. Since there haven't been any irrigation
created puddles yet to concentrate Horned Larks and
longspurs, I didn't personally check it out today.

It was certainly satisfying to finally add the
American Golden Plover to my Lincoln County life list.
This species is always tough to find in northeastern
Washington.
