On Friday, I accompanied the Columbia Land Trust on a tour of
some of the properties that they have preserved along the Klickitat
River. The best birds seen where a small flock of WILD TURKEYS upstream
of the town of Klickitat and two LEWIS' WOODPECKERS further upstream.
These woodpeckers have been hard to find in Klickitat County this year
due to a small acorn crop last year, this year's crop looks much better.
The most interesting sighting was a 18" RING-NECKED SNAKE on the
old haul road downstream of Lydell Park. This beautiful snake did it's
fright display of rolling the tail over and showing us its bright orange
underside.
