Subject: [Tweeters] Hollywood and birds - golf courses!

I seem to recall a small scandal a few years ago, when someone pointed out
that the birdsong heard on the "live" broadcast of the Masters golf
tournament included some birds who could not possibly have been there (I
think a cactus wren may have figured in that one, but I don't really
remember).

CBS, chagrined, admitted that they had resorted to "piping in" some extra
birdsong to make it seem more, what, Eden-like or something. I thought it
was just funny, is all.

Does anyone else remember this? It's ironic, because golf courses, despite
the heavy use of chemicals (fertilizers and so on), are often excellent
wildlife viewing areas. I always carry a compact set of binocs on my
infrequent forays to the golf course, and I've had some excellent sightings,
including a marvelously posed red fox at the West Seattle municipal course a
couple of years ago.
