Ruth and Tweeters,

I just returned from a LOOONG drive up to Harts Pass and back in a vain attempt to locate a Northern Hawk Owl. When I opened my e-mail this evening, not surprisingly, my first reaction was denial. As a therapist I have worked with may people who have suffered a loss, and like everyone, my heart goes out to Ruth.

My next thought took me back to August of 2001, when I sent out a blanket plea to Tweeterland asking if anyone would like to spend the day birding with me. Ruth and Patrick responded and took me along on a trip to the coast. After walking me to exhaustion at Damon Point and the Game Range, Patrick was ready to march up the beach at Midland and I pooped out and stayed with the car. When they spotted a Whimbrel, Patrick remembered I needed one and he asked Ruth to fetch me while he staked it out for us. I never forgot that kindness. Earlier that day from atop the dunes at the Ocean Shores Jetty he pointed out a Manx Shearwater to me. I had no idea at the time how BIG that was!
.
Ruth, Thank You. You raised a son to be proud of.

-Rolan
