Dear Ruth and Tweeters,

Like many people I was stunned by this news and it has
taken me awhile to absorb its impact. Ruth I am so
sorry and my thoughts and prayers are with you and
Patrick's soul.

I can't believe at this time last week I was on the
WOS trip to Grays Harbor to Westport with you and
Patrick. One thing amazed me birding with Patrick and
that was his ability to find and or notice every
single bird in range. This quality helped him find
more rarities, plus the ability to notice small
details like the call of the Temmink's Stint. The
other that stands out that many others have mentioned
is his willingness to share every bird. He would
contort himself into some amazing positions being a
tall guy to make sure the scope was set low enough so
the shortest member of a field trip could get a good
look at the bird. At the end of our trip on Sunday he
climbed into the car of fellow participants to help
them with some birding information they were seeking.
Every time I emailed about something he would send me
everything I needed to know plus some. I am grateful
to have met him and only wish I had a chance to get to
know him a little better.

Ruth, let us know if there will be gathering or
memorial. I will do everything I can to be there.

With good memories and sadness,
Kathy
