Barbara and I have been away and just this morning learned of Patrick Sullivan's untimely death. Whenever we couldn't go birding Patrick was our eye into the birding world. It wasn't just that he was always "out there", but he shared his trips with those detailed accounts of what he had seen. We came to depend on those descriptions, and they helped us pick the destinations for our own trips. And whenever we met Patrick he was pleasant, helpful, and without airs of superiority, usually saying something like: "We're just happy to let people know what we've seen," or "We just try to be helpful."

We'll miss this fine birder and decent young man, and we'll remember him as we go back to Nisqually and Ocean Shores and the other places he loved, Our thoughts are with Ruth.
