Tweets - the Washington Ornithological Society would like to announce the
following field trips:

Saturday, April 5

Ken Knittle will lead a trip to Whitcomb Island, Crow Butte State Park, and
Roosevelt in Benton County, and finish the day birding eastern Klickitat
County. Target birds are early migrants, Snow Geese, possible Ross's Geese,
Ferruginous Hawks, Sage Sparrows, Long-billed Curlews, Western and Mountain
Bluebirds, Loggerhead Shrikes, and Sage Thrashers. Rarities in the last
couple of years have been Steller's Jays at Crow Butte (very rare in Benton
Co.) and Northern Mockingbird along Six Prong Road singing from the top of a
Western Juniper, where nearby a Rock Wren was singing atop another juniper
tree trying to "out sing" the Mockingbird. Limited to five (5) cars. For

Saturday, April 26

Tim O'Brien will lead a trip in Grays Harbor and Pacific counties for
shorebirds and more, with a focus on the southern portion of Grays Harbor.
Stops will include Bottle Beach, Westport, Grayland, Tokeland and time
permitting, Bowerman Basin. Target birds include Snowy Plover, Willet,
Wandering Tattler, Whimbrel, Long-billed Curlew, Ruddy Turnstone, and Red
Knot. Plan for an all-day trip from dawn to dusk, and come prepared with
food, drink, appropriate weather gear, and scopes. Limit of twelve (12)

Tuesday, April 29

Marv Breece will lead a trip in Grays Harbor and Pacific counties for
shorebirds and seabirds with possible stops at the Johns River Wildlife
Area, Bottle Beach, Ocosta Third Street, the Westport jetty, Grayland,
Midway Beach, and Tokeland. Target species include Snowy Plover, Willet,
Wandering Tattler, Whimbrel, Long-billed Curlew, Ruddy Turnstone, and Red
Knot. Spotting scopes are recommended and bring a lunch. Limit of eight

Field Trips allow WOS members to explore new places or revisit familiar
haunts. Each member may join up to four trips per year (excluding annual
conference trips). Non-members may attend as a member's guest once per year.
Questions about field trips should be directed to the trip leader(s). If you
