can you believe it? i'm at home today because of a fevre. my boss said
something like "i don't want you making anyone else sick!"... yeah, well,
where did >I< get it? :)

anyway, i'm sitting here doing sick things, feeling sorry for myself,
staring into my backyard wilderness and, lo, a pileated woodpecker male
flies onto my railing, the second in about a week. this one is even more
incredible in crest than the previous. of course, my camera is nowhere near
where i've been pining and whining, so that will have to be fixed.

now that i think about it: is it likely to have two pileated males within a
few acres? i thought they were more territorial than that, but i suppose
one could be flying through as it were, or scoping out new food sources...

as he flew off, i noticed a brown creeper creeping up an evergreen about 40
feet away... he's my first creeper here in the sammamish wilderness, and i
hope he won't be my last...
