This reminds me of the time when I was a kid and caught a horned toad in
Eastern WA and secretly brought it home. When my mother found out I had to
get rid of it so I rode it on my bike to Green lake and released it. Later
somebody found it alive (it was summer) and brought it to the UW where a
newspaper article got written about it. I suspect the marmot in question
has some similar sort of history since it seems inconceivable that it could
have migrated all this way, through the city, to this park.

Who found a stray baby mouse seemingly dead and carried it around in my
pocket until it was warmed up and active enough to try and escape. I let it
go into the brush and walked a few steps and sat down to enjoy the bird
song. I got up and after walking several meters felt a funny tickle on my
ear and found that the mouse had followed me, climbed up the back of my coat
while I was sitting and was riding on my shoulder. I finally managed to
part with the little tyke by releasing it in a squirrel midden full of fir
cones. At least I think so. I keep looking over my shoulder.
