Hello Tweets,
I spent a birdy morning at Discovery Park. While heading toward North Beach to see the Mt. bluebirds and the Say's phoebe reported by Penny (both species easily found), I turned up a Red-naped sapsucker in the upper park. The bird was in the large, gnarly pine tree on the left-hand path as you go due north from the south parking lot (about three-quarters of the way before you get to the paved E-W running road). In the nearby young alders I ran into a mini-flock of Townsend's warblers (6-8 male birds) among the usual suspects. Near the ponds at North Beach I heard and then saw a California Quail...a species I see less and less frequently in King County. About 50 Bonapart's gulls were on the beach in a full range of plumages.
