After last year's contingent of Adams County birders could not come up with a single Eurasian Wigeon, I broke the spell this afternoon. There was a male among about 40 American Wigeon at the potato ponds outside Othello. And as last year in early April there was also a Eurasian Green-winged Teal on the pond. I continued to Columbia NWR and stopped to look at a raft of mixed coots, Gadwall and more wigeon at Halfmoon Lake (just past the retired gravel operation along McManamon Road.) This flock had two more male EUWI and an AMWI x EUWI hybrid among about 200 AMWI. Still a Slate-colored Junco at my feeders in town.

Last week up the Mt. Baker Highway, from the Sno-Park near MP 47 there was at least one White-winged Crossbill. Also vocal Sooty Grouse, N Pygmy Owl, Red-breasted Sapsuckers, Pileated Woodpeckers, and many Varied Thrush, Red Crossbill and Pine Siskin.
