HI Tweeters,

A report from Battle Ground, Clark County, WA:

I was surprised to look out at the thistle feeder this morning at 6:35 and
see two LESSER GOLDFINCHes! It appeared to be an immature male and a
female. The overall olive tone, dark stout bill, and white pattern in the
wings were the distinguishing marks. They were not with any other
goldfinches or siskins. They were very skiddish especially when they saw my
feeble attempts at grabbing the camera (I'm apparently not good with a
camera within five minutes of waking up). I snapped one inconclusive
photo. At that point, when I opened the blinds, they took off. Last year,
I had one adult male Lesser Goldfinch spend about two hours at the feeder on
April 7th. Last year's bird arrived on a day when the feeders were
overflowing with American Goldfinches. This year I only have about 6-8.

As I write this, a GREEN HERON just perched on a tree about 75 yards from
the back deck. I only had one sighting from the yard in 2007. Maybe it'll
be a good migration day today!

I'll post again if they return.
