Hello there --

The nuthatch is quite persistent in excavation in our hemlock snag. Last year we had flickers and now I noticed this afternoon a new site at approx 6' off the ground! The nuthatch is at about 12'-20'... Do any of you have "condo" snags...i.e. multiple species in one snag?

I also have a pair of Bewick's wrens in my "dovecote"...they were collecting my dog's hair the other day, along with a chestnut backed tugging away at it but flew off to parts unknown.

I'm still crossing my fingers for brown creepers under all the loose bark on the snag...

No bushtit nest this year, but there is a very nice one at the fill where the hummers hang out... Is there a common description for the sites down there to describe where we find sitings?

Has anyone (I have the Birder's Guide to WA) seen Avocets at a western site reliably? Could you recommend a place to try? I read about Crocker Lake on Whidbey and wondered who may have had success there?

I'll be in the garden in our lovely weather tomorrow, watching all the activity!

Have a great weekend!
