ginger holser, marc hoffman, and myself went a-searchin' for the burrowing
owl this morning. unfortunately, we came up blank on that score.

however, it was obvious lust was in the aire, as a pair of downy woodpeckers
were quite amorous for the better part of 15 minutes on the interpretive
trail as it starts into the trees (east of the dog run)... also seen were
bald eagles on the nest (in the same area), one of which had something we
believe might have been a snake for brunch; two wilson's snipe just past
the beginning of the wooden boardwalk, flushed when we walked past; on the
far south point, there was a wonderful flock of buffleheads, mostly female,
and two female common goldeneyes. way off in the western lake samm
distance, was another bald eagle surveying its domain...

finally, bewick and marsh wrens were heard and seen in mass quantities, even
though they made themselves more seen than heard... it was a glorious
morning, even with the dips :)
