Hello Tweeters,
After absent for over 10 days house sitting a Dog for a friend,I had to do
something to get out in to Nature.I meet Kathy Andrich at 8.00 am this
morning at the Nisqually parking lot,The weather looked good for some good
hiking, and after a while the sun came partly out,and we taken our jackets
off.It feel like heaven to going birding again, even so we did not got
something Rare,we saw lot's and lot's of Waterfowl .For me the Caspian Terns
catching the Fish and eating there catch in air so close was what I never
saw,This three Terns was with a huge group (45) birds also fishing on this
spot.As thinks settled down and the Terns left to the Sound where there
mixed with the other 17 Caspian Terns. We was wonder where the Cormorant
went,as we spotted this birds lined up in the water holding there heads up
high, this was a sight to see.I spotted one Cormorant what showed white on
the head,it was a Western breeding Adult. This for me was a first. In the
same area we had all the many breeding plumage Horned Grebes(22)
birds).Amazing was that every bird seems different in plumage, some of them
super brilliant bright ,and some this coming in to the bright plumage.
We had large amount of Greater Yellowlegs counted (42) and only 2 Lesser
Yellowlegs. We only had 4 species of Shorebirds, with 40 Dunlin's and 1 lone
Black-bellied Plover, what I certainly have missed,if Kathy not have saw this
bird blending well in to the habitat. It is amazing what more birds 2 can
find than one, especial when it comes to counting the birds you
seeing.Another highlight where we had (8)Cinnamon Teals. The most birds of
one species where Wood Ducks, and Green -winged Teals..We also had all three
Mergansers, what really was nice to see.We had tree species of Swallows Tree
Swallows where every where, with Barn and Cliff Swallows at the Barn
only.Kathy spotted the two Orange -crowned Warblers where one was
singing.We also had lot's and lot's of Yellow-rumped Warblers,Myrtle and
Audubon's.And than the most Canada's where the Cackling it was impossible to
say how many from the Barn way over the fields as far you can see, guessing
roughly on FIFE THOUSANDS.Our last bird driving out where (10 Snow Goose).
It was a super pleasant day with good company and no Rain.
