Marc and Tweeters . . .
I had concluded that the dove we saw in 2006 was a Ringed Turtle-Dove (or
African Collared-Dove) and not a Eurasian. The two are very similar in
appearance, though the Ringed is smaller with lighter primaries and overall
more pale than the Eurasian. The Ringed apparently is much more likely to
be kept as a pet.

Of course I'm open to any follow-up opinions as to whether this was a
Eurasian, though I still believe it was a tame/escaped Ringed TD as I recall
the size to be more consistent with the 11" vs. 13" for the Eurasian. The
primaries also seem lighter, but I'll have to see if I can dig up my
original images to make sure photo processing didn't result in
misrepresented tones. I don't generally mess with color saturation when I
prepare my images, so I think that "what we see is what we get" with these
shots.
