Tim,

This looks likely for one of the "Red" Fox Sparrow forms, perhaps the duller colored altivagans subspecies, although it may be hard to pin down with these photos. In any case, an interesting Fox Sparrow.

Subject: [Tweeters] Mystery sparrow - seeking ID help

This morning, I found and photographed a sparrow along Dunlap Road (south of Elma) that has me confused. It seems chunky like a Fox, but the streaking on the sides/breast seem different for a Fox. It was associating with White-crowned and Golden-crowned. Habitat was open fields and blackberry brambles right around where this sparrow was hanging out.

Five photos can be seen at www.pbase.com/kertim7179 in "My Photos".

Thanks for any help!
