Hi Tweeters,

While visiting Bellingham with a friend on April 16th,
we saw a huge number of Surf Scoters from Zuanich
Point Park in Squalicum Harbor.

By my estimate, there were at least 800 Surf Scoters a
little offshore--they were bunched into several large
rafts, and as far as I could tell with my 8x42
binoculars, they were mostly males. Never seen so
many in one place before!

Also in the harbor:
3 Common Loons (1 in winter plumage, 2 in breeding
plumage)
2 Red-necked Grebes
3 Western Grebes
2 Double-crested Cormorants
1 imm. male Common Goldeneye
1 adult Bald Eagle
