Two of the adult female peregrines that our team satellite-tagged in Chile last January are currently migrating north. Once again, we are tracking them on our website at www.frg.org. Click on Field Research, then Southern Cross Peregrine Project and select either "Chamiza" or "Elizabetha" to follow their progress. Make sure to download Google Earth (its free) if you can.
Chamiza is flying up the spine of the Andes and entered Bolivia yesterday. She is moving through some of the most remarkable and beautiful country you can imagine, the relatively unknown region of the high Andean altiplano. She was near the Uyuni Salt Flat today, the largest salar in the world at 12,000' in elevation. Last night, she roosted over 13,000'.
If you are not familiar with this area, check out some of the pictures on Google Earth (click on the little blue dots). They are absolutely beautiful.
The three tagged adult males should also be departing from Chile soon.
