I am out walking as part of surgical rehab. The cold snowy weather made it interesting - and provided an almost surreal spring landscape. Plum, Peach, Salmon Berry and Daffodil blossoms covered in snow and birds EVERYWHERE.

I had some FANTASTIC birds yesterday on an hour long walk.

LAZULI BUNTING - 1 bright male singing atop a blackberry tangle covered in snow in the sunshine
Rufous Hummingbird - 2 Males and 3 females - one female was collecting spider webs from the side of an old stump - nesting?!
Annas Hummingbird - 1 male at my feeder - a first for my rather rural yard
CALLIOPE HUMMINGBIRD - brief visit at the feeder - only 3 feet from my face in the kitchen window
MOUNTAIN BLUEBIRD - pair in the upper meadow - not far from the bunting
Hermit Thrush - moving through the detritus that was under the acre of blackberries I cleared earlier
Varied Thrush - a group of 5 - I thought they would be gone by now - but this weather....
American Robin - dozens - I've located 3 nest sites so far on my acreage
RUFFED GROUSE - an especially stupid one that literally let me walk within 2 feet on the trail
White Crowned Sparrow - Pugent... Singing
Townsends Warbler - 3 in a mixed flock
Bushtit - busy building a nest on the end of a hemlock branch
Dark eyed Junco - Many many - males making the buzz call that seems like a ventriloquist
Song Sparrow - I have at least 3 pairs - they have stopped the window attacks
Fox Sparrow - 3 including both a very grey and a very ruddy bird
Yellow Rumped Warbler - a flock of 15+, both Myrtle and Audubon
NASHVILLE WARBLER - with the butterbutts
Common Raven - I counted at least 12 all flying south up the Raging River
Steller's Jay - Pair collecting nesting material
CB Chickadee - Pair checking an old nest box that I didn't even know was there
BC Chickadee - in a mixed flock with Butterbutts and Nashville
Hairy Woodpecker - single male
Downy Woodpecker - single bird up very high in an alder snag
Pileated Woodpecker - knocking huge chunks out of a rotted hemlock snag
Red Breasted Nuthatch - very vocal
Brown Creeper - Collecting nesting material - but I couldn't see where it was going
Red-breasted Sapsucker - likely the same bird that was pounding on my house - still exploring holes
Bald Eagle - Beautiful Adult soaring in cirlces and moving up the river
Osprey - a real surprise - got caught in a monster hail storm and roosted in a snag for 10 minutes
Red-tailed Hawk - I have at least two pairs - I'm trying to find a nest my neighbors told me about
unidenified Accip - zoom up the trail after a fat Robin - pretty large - likely a Coopers
Bewicks Wren - Holed up in a vent hole on the side of the house during snow


All in all a great day to move (carefully) around. Hopefully I'll be able to get out more later in the week
