the falcon youngsters, 3, are moving right along in their development. they
appear nearly twice as big as when the hatched. this evening dad was
pressed into service as a babysitter while mom took a break from about 1905
to 1945. at that time of the evening the sun is on the cliff face and
nearly reaches the nest itself. the male did not cover the chicks but
leaned over them to some extent and at least did not stop on anybody. he
does appear to be a klutz. mom scooped everybody together and had the whole
brood under cover within a couple minutes of her return to duty. one
interesting thing that became clear as the sun was setting is the air around
the falls is filled with small flying insects. can the swallows be far
behind?
