About the crossbills at Sol Duc: there were several, we even watched one singing for quite a
while. Near the R.V. parking lot one of the springs is captured by a metal standpipe and
allowed to drain out on the ground into a little creek bed. Of course, the outside of the pipe is
coated with goop from the spring. We were able to stand very close and get a few photos of
a crowd of crossbills peeling the goop off of the outside of the pipe. Must be pretty tasty.

Also, we spent some time with a banded raven. I am checking on its history (probably part of
the predation study from a few years ago) and will report later.
