Tweets,
I spent a long day at Nisqually NWR enjoying the show. I was
delighted to see Cinnamon Teal among the usual waterfowl, as well as a
Wood Duck pair perched high in a tree near the beginning of the
boardwalk. (No Black-necked Stilts.) Yellow-rumps were everywhere,
along with a few Yellow, Orange-crowned, Wilson's, and a Black-throated
Gray Warbler. A flock of 20 - 25 Vaux's Swifts were above the trail
and there were a trio of Northern Rough-wing Swallows near the water
control structure (the outlet) along McAllister Creek. I finally got a
perfect look at a Hermit Thrush, courtesy of Phil Kelley. But my
wonderful day got even better when, prompted by Merlin Wiese and Art, I
found a nest with newly hatched little hummingbirds. I didn't see mom,
but Merlin, Art and Horst saw and photographed her when she returned to
feed her youngsters.
A fine and birdy day!
