John, I've seen bicolored heads on young goldeneyes of both species, and
the Common Goldeneye duckling portrayed in Nests, Eggs, and Nestlings of
North American Birds (Baicich and Harrison) is very similar to the bird in
your photo. Young scoters and Long-tailed Ducks have somewhat similar
patterning, but I wouldn't expect them in Manning Park.
