Hello Tweeters,
Since I already drove to Aberdeen today attending Rose DuBois Memorial.Rose
was a PIONEER in the Grays Harbor area and been well known. Many people
attended her Life Celebration.
I got a late start and the tide was already high at 2,25 PM.I was surprised
that the little bridge in Bottle beach was going down, and there right now is
no ACCESS to Bottle Beach
I drove to Tokeland, even so the tide was high, the Marbled Godwit's
returned. The Jetty was full of halve Whimbrel and Marbled Godwit's.There
took most the whole Jetty, body on body.the only other birds there where 4
Willet's,and seven breeding Great Blue Heron ,sitting on the higher jetty
among the vegetation.I also saw 6 Purple Martin flying around.I looked on
Graveyard Spit where most of the birds was close to the front for closer
viewing,There where 106 Caspian Terns with 21 Heermann's Gulls,California
Gulls, Olympus Gulls and lot's of Mew Gulls. There also where more Whimbrel
and a large group of Peeps flying over the waters, but NO ELEGANT TERN'S
For some reason I also visit the Cranberry farms. When I birded with Patrick
,I never liked the area.In all the years birding we had ONE KITE .ONE
CATTLE EGRET and ONE SOLITARY SANDPIPER.But Patrick was steady and always
believed in to eventually the looking paid off.So there I WHERE GOING FROM
STREET TO STREET FORT AND BACK,BUT I did lucked out to finding 3 Greater
Yellowlegs and 2 Spotted Sandpipers.Thinking of Patrick how consistent he
was regardless of my rejection of this area.I honored him today to go to a
place I always was so negative about this area and for the first time I
really start looking at the place in a different perspective.
>From there I visit Midway Beach,The way to the Ocean is dry now ,so you can
drive all the way to the beach.I was running out of time,so I stayed in
front where I had few Shorebirds, like Western Sandpipers,Greater Yellowlegs
and 6 Long-billed Dowitchers.I also had Turkey Vultures 3 in Tokeland,1 in
Midway Beach and 3 over Satsop Area.
It was a good Day
Cheers Ruth Sullivan
