Hey tweets, just a quick note to fill you in on the Fill:

Yesterday, a CHIPPING SPARROW was foraging along the verge that borders
the easternmost parking lot - the one immediately north and east of the
greenhouses. There is a driveway here that leads into a closed-off
parking area for CUH personnel. The bird was foraging in the grass
here.

Today, there were 9 Least Sandpipers on the main pond, and a dowitcher
(I think, short-billed).

The Lazuli Bunting continues to appear - sometimes in the greenery that
lines the eastern edge of the main pond; sometimes among the tall,
dark-green reeds in the middle of Shoveler Pond.

The Ruddy Duck continues to float on the main pond. Yesterday, it was
joined by a Northern Shoveler. Cinnamon Teals in eclipse plumage are
reliable in the lagoon south of the southwest pond.

Warblers (my favorite birds) are showing up!! In the past two days,
I've seen Wilson's, Yellow, and Common Yellowthroat - heard an
Orange-crowned today but could not see it.

The baby Virginia Rails are out and about. and the two baby eagles took
a biiiiggg flight yesterday, all the way over to the snags at the Fill.
They still fill the air with their cries as they spend most of their
time perching in the tree above their nest, begging their parents to
please, please, please bring food. One birder I ran into said that the
parents were probably deliberately shorting the kiddies on food;
otherwise, they wouldn't leave the nest till they were 35. Something in
that. - Connie, Seattle
