This time of year my blueberry bushes are covered in purple tulle to try and keep the birds out of the bushes. But those ripening berries are very enticing. The other day an adult crow was bouncing up and down atop a bush. Whether it was trying to get down through the tulle or it was using the bush as a trampoline I'm not sure. It sure seemed to be having fun bouncing off the top of the bush. After a few bounces it gave up on the blueberries and went elsewhere to forage.

Young crows have been having a go at the blueberries by pecking at ripening berries through the tulle and then trying to eat through the mesh. Doesn't work very well. Other young crows have pulled through the tulle, setting free a berry, then watching to see where it comes out the bottom. A couple times berries got caught in a low spot in the tulle and the crows systematically pushed at the berries until they fell to the ground. Persistance has its merits.

With all the noise fledgling crows make I'm sure glad I'm not an adult crow.
