There was a juvenile Coopers Hawk perched in an alder and to my enormous
surprise a crow landed on the same branch! About 4 feet away. The two
obviously looked at each other, the hawk fluttering its wings when the crow
first landed which I took as a startle response. The crow started
muttering, not really a caw, more of a gurgle sort of sound and the hawk
looked at the crow with its head cocked as if trying to make sense of what
the crow was saying. A second crow landed a few feet above the hawk and this
was enough company and the hawk flew off into the dark woods. The crow that
was above, flew down to where the hawk has been perched and the two crows
began cawing, as if laughing at their adventure.
