Perhaps I can solve the issue of the black duck at Juanita. I have a large
pond on my property in Woodinville and several years ago purchased 2 pairs
of black ducks which were pinioned (rendered flightless for life). They
successfully raised babies which I was unable to catch in order to pinion.
This resulted in a small flock of black ducks which became somewhat
established in my neighborhood. At one time there were about 20 of them but
now I don't see more than 10. One hen brought 10 babies to the pond this
spring but only raised 3 of them to flight stage. In all likelihood the bird
at Juanita has its origin from my pond. I have several pictures of them on
my website www.photos.rlkimages.com <http://www.photos.rlkimages.com/> if
you are interested. I hope that clears the air.

Also, large numbers of wood ducks winter over on my pond. I provide feed for
them twice a day. Late last September there were 110 of there at one time.
It is quite a site to see.
