As of last weekend there were still at least six Himalayan Snowcocks in
the Ruby Mountains above Island Lake.

If you make the trip, bring your scope, flashlight, and all the
patience you can gather. Expect gorgeous scenery and a difficult bird.

Not too far from there is the Great Basin National Park and Wheeler
Peak. Expect drop dead gorgeous scenery with Pinyon Jays. Caress what
may be the earth's oldest living creature, a 4000 year old Bristlecone
Pine.
