Greatings Tweeters,
Yesterday while surveying in upper Church Creek (Skokomish River) and along the divide into the Wynoochee River watershed we encountered one, then two Golden Eagles. Both birds were adults, potentially a pair. The birds were seen several times through the day, on both sides of the divide, first in Mason County, then in Grays Harbor. I have encountered birds in this general area in the past, but very rarely. Other birds in this area included Olive-sided Flycatcher, Sooty and Ruffed Grouse, and Northern Pygmy-Owl.
We also came across 5 Common Nighthawks just north of Shelton on our return to Olympia in the evening. Seems like they could have been migrants, but it is also possible that they summer in this area.
Cheers and good birding,
Bill Shelmerdine
Olympia
