Hi,

Just wanted to report that a friend and I heard and saw at least 3 Common Nighthawks feeding over the south end of Lopez Island on Sunday, the 17th of August. We first heard nighthawk calls the previous evening. On Sunday morning, they could be heard calling between 4 and 6 am. Sunday evening between 8:30 and 9:30 we heard them again and climbed a hill to get above the trees for a view. At this point we could hear at least 3 calling, and saw one at a distance and two more that swooped by us. The mosquitoes were biting by the swarm that night, so evidently the birds had plenty to eat. My friend, whose family owns property in the area and has been visiting all her life, could not remember seeing Nighthawks here often, and had not seen one in years. We were pretty thrilled.
