Tweets and Yakkers,

Saturday evening around 7pm I witness a flock of Common Nighthawks
that was larger than any congregation of this species I have ever seen
before. About 6 miles ESE of Yakima I counted 279 of these birds in a
single feeding group. They were coursing back and forth about 500 feet
high in a long narrow feeding flock that probably spanned 3000 by 1000
feet. I am thinking this may be a sign that they are beginning to
stage for the migration south. Has anyone seen anything like this
before?
