Tweeters,

Belated report of weekend hiking/birding up in the mountains.

Hiked the Chain Lakes trail loop at Mt Baker in the Heather Meadows area on 8/23. Despite the super weather, there were very few birds to be seen. I only found 3 Juncos, 1 Pipit and 2 Ravens. However beginning the drive down, at the pond just below the Heather Meadows parking lot, there were interestingly 5 Red-necked Phalarope and 1 female Common Goldeneye.

Hiked yesterday at Sunrise on Rainier. Took the Fremont trail to the fire tower. Best bird was 1 Black-crowned Rosy Finch at the tower and 1 Rufous Hummingbird just east of the parking lot. Apart from that, fairly quiet on the bird front at Rainier too although did see several Nutcracker's, Junco's, Y.R. Warblers, and Ravens. Did see 33 Mtn. Goats and 2 Black Bears however at different points along the way (from a distance!)
