Hello to all Swift Enthusiasts!
It is almost time for the fall migration of the Vaux Swifts. As you know
we are gearing up for their return to Monroe and the chimney at Frank
Wagner Elementary School.
If you have not seen the brochure for the planned Monroe Swiftwatch in
September please check the attachment or go to the PAS website and
check it there. Also please tell your family friends and neighbors about
the event so they can join in the welcome back celebration on September
6th The Swifts Local Committee is working hard to get ready for the
event and more help is needed. We need to count the birds nightly as
they arrive at their stop over in Monroe. We want to do the counting
from August 24th until October 30 (or until they have left for the
winter).
We need COUNTERS! We would like 2 per night. We also plan to have
DOCENTS at the school every night from August 27th - Oct 30. So we need
Docents too! Again we would like 2 per night with at least 6 available
on the night of Swift Watch Sept 6th. Last week we had training for the
Counters and Docents which was very good and we got some more great
birders to help. But not everyone who wants to help was able to attend
that session so we have scheduled another training session.
THIS TRAINING WILL BE HELD NEXT WEDNESDAY NIGHT AUGUST 27TH AT 7:00PM AT
THE SCHOOL IN BACK AT THE TABLES. Judy Alles and I will be doing the
training. Any of you who helped with the count last spring are welcome
to come and help us but you do not need to attend.
If you still want to help and can not attend the training on August 27th
please call me 425-771-8165 so we can make sure you have the information
you need to be an official counter or docent.
We are working on the schedule for both counters and docents and need to
get it finished next week as the migration is starting and we need to
get going. If you have talked or emailed with me in the last week I
should already have you scheduled. If you helped with the spring count
and plan to help again please contact me right away so I can get you on
the schedule!
If you can help with the event on Sept 6th please call Eileen Hambleton
360-793-2116 and plan to attend the final meeting of the local committee
on Sept 3rd.
Thank you to all enthusists who are now the Champions of the Monroe
Swifts! and to all other who want to get involved and be a part of the
excitment in Monroe!
