Hi Everyone,

I led a field trip oriented toward beginning birders this morning at Marymoor. We had a very good morning, with nice looks at a number of species. The best bird of the morning was an EASTERN KINGBIRD seen near the east meadow by the dirt piles, in the small patch of trees right next to the brand-new birding trail kiosk. Other nice looks during the trip included:

COOPER'S HAWK - long looks at perched juvenile and (later) an adult
OSPREY - Multiple birds fishing over the river and long looks at a bird perched relatively low along the slough
BELTED KINGFISHER - A noisy male parading up and down the river conveniently for the group
YELLOW WARBLER
COMMON YELLOWTHROAT
BLACK-THROATED GRAY WARBLER - very nice looks at multiple birds several places on the loop trail
WILSON'S WARBLER
PURPLE FINCH
WILLOW FLYCATCHER
VAUX'S SWIFT
PURPLE MARTIN - several heard over the east meadow, none at the gourds by the observation deck
SAVANNAH SPARROW - tons moving about in the east meadow
MOURNING DOVE - two doing a nice fly-by at the dirt piles

and many of the other usual suspects for this time of year.
