Tweets,
After 3-4 weeks of general quiet on the bird front things have really picked up over the last couple of days. There have been big movements of Black Throated Grey and Wilson's Warblers through my yard - at one point this afternoon I counted no less than 22 BTG's in a single small Western Hemlock at the edge of my driveway. There were 4-5 Wilson's with these birds. I went outside to check these guys out and I heard a distinctive sapsucker call coming from trees in my upper field. I hastily made my way up the stairs and quickly re-located the Williamson's Sapsucker that I had found 10 days or so ago. This bird was working an alder snag and then flew up very high into a huge cottonwood. His vocalizations were loud and regular. This was at 5:30 or so - 45 minutes ago. There were also 8-9 Stellars Jays and a Hairy Woodpecker (hatch year) in the same area.
I was down in Fall City earlier in the day and saw a huge (1000+) mixed flock of swallows and a few Vaux's Swifts working a large flight of insects (some termites were in the mix and a lot of dragonflies) in the fields on the north side of the river near the 202/203 traffic circle. There were BARN, TREE, VIOLET GREEN, and NORTHERN ROUGH WINGs in the group. I wonder if the Vaux's are using a local chimney? If I didn't have a previous commitment I'd try to watch the birds movement at sunset...but maybe another day. Out on the edge of the lawn / playfield area on the NW corner of the traffic circle I had both a Solitary and a PECTORAL Sandpiper. A single Turkey Vulture was moving south to north along Hiway 203 in the same general area.
