The following is a portion of a post to OBOL regarding birds seen by John
Crowell, Owen Schmidt and me on August 27. We spent the earlier part of the
day in Oregon.

We also birded Ledbetter Pt., Pacific Co., WA. In my experience this was
the best the place has been in fall for years. Some trips there by me in
the past six year resulted in no shorebirds being seen.

Though it was low tide, the totals (plus or minus 10% regarding the species
other then Red Knot) were still impressive:

BLACK-BELLIED PLOVER 565
SHORT-BILLED DOWITCHER 420
WESTERN SANDPIPER 4,000
LEAST SANDPIPER 250
SANDERLING 400
RED KNOT 7

1 adult light phase PARASITIC JAEGER
Great numbers of Brown Pelicans, Great blue Herons, and various gulls. Also
a family of River Otters and a nearby Black Bear on the road.
