Out-of-town RARE BIRD ALERT for a PROTHONOTARY WARBLER,
the third BC record, at the Vaseux Lake banding station near Okanagan
Falls on August 28. The bird was not reported on the 29th. The long-staying
LESSER GOLDFINCH in Abbotsford was last reported on August 21.


Sightings for Friday, August 29th

At Blackie Spit in Surrey, a RUDDY TURNSTONE, a LONG-BILLED CURLEW,
2 MARBLED GODWITS, and 2 COMMON TERNS were seen.

At the Maplewood Conservation Area in North Vancouver, many migrant
songbirds were seen including a RED-EYED VIREO, WARBLING VIREO, an
OLIVE-SIDED FLYCATCHER, and 2 WESTERN WOOD-PEWEES. Also here
25 RED CROSSBILLS and at least 6 remaining PURPLE MARTINS.

Three EURASIAN COLLARED-DOVES were seen in the 4100 block of River Road
In Delta, west of Ladner.


No sightings reported for Thursday, August 28th


Sightings for Wednesday, August 27th

A female LAZULI BUNTING feeding two fledglings was seen at Colony Farm
Regional Park in Port Coquitlam.

A RED KNOT, 2 BAIRD?S SANDPIPERS, and 2 RED-NECKED PHALAROPES
were seen near the foot of 96th Street in Delta along with thousands of
WESTERN SANDPIPERS and BLACK-BELLIED PLOVERS.

The adult HEERMANN?S GULL was present again on the Tsawwassen ferry jetty,
along with a WILLET, 2 WHIMBRELS, and several BLACK OYSTERCATCHERS.
At the pond on Highway 17 near Deltaport way were 24 RED-NECKED
PHALAROPES.


Sightings for Tuesday, August 26th

Two RUDDY TURNSTONES and a WHIMBREL were seen along the
Tsawwassen jetty near the ferry terminal.

At the Reifel Bird Sanctuary in Delta, 7 SANDHILL CRANES and 4
PURPLE MARTINS were seen.


Sightings for Monday, August 25th

Noteworthy shorebirds near the foot of 96th Street on Boundary Bay
included an AMERICAN GOLDEN-PLOVER, a RED KNOT, 2 RUDDY TURNSTONES,
and 5 RED-NECKED PHALAROPES. On the Tsawwassen ferry jetty, an adult
HEERMANN?S GULL and a WHIMBREL were seen.

The NORTHERN WATERTHRUSH at the Reifel Bird Sanctuary was seen
again, and 3 EURASIAN COLLARED-DOVES were along River Road near
Brunswick Point in Delta.


Sightings for Sunday, August 24th

A boat trip to the Grebe Islets and Bird Islets off Lighthouse Park in West
Vancouver produced 75 SURFBIRDS, 2 BLACK TURNSTONES, and 7
BLACK OYSTERCATCHERS.

Two early GREATER WHITE-FRONTED GEESE were seen with CANADA
GEESE along 52nd Street near Highway 17 in Delta.


Sightings for Saturday, August 23rd

Two more NORTHERN WATERTHRUSHES were reported-- one at the
Maplewood Conservation Area in North Vancouver, and one along Still
Creek near Sperling Avenue in Burnaby, above where it flows into Burnaby
Lake.

In Delta, 2 RUDDY TURNSTONES and a juvenile RED KNOT were seen near
the foot of 96th Street on Boundary Bay, and 4 WILSON?S PHALAROPES
and a RED-NECKED PHALAROPE were at the Reifel Bird Sanctuary.


Sightings for Friday, August 22nd

At the Maplewood Conservation Area in North Vancouver, 3 COMMON
TERNS were reported.


Sightings for Thursday, August 21st

The NORTHERN WATERTHRUSH was seen again along the east dyke at
the Reifel Bird Sanctuary in Delta. Also at Reifel were 5 PURPLE
MARTINS, 7 SANDHILL CRANES, 2 PEREGRINE FALCONS, and lots
of shorebirds, which included a BAIRD?S SANDPIPER, 5 PECTORAL
SANDPIPERS, and 3 WILSON?S PHALAROPES.

The long-staying male LESSER GOLDFINCH was seen again at 2093
Topaz Street in Abbotsford, near Highway 1 east of Vancouver.

Sightings for Wednesday, August 20th

A NORTHERN WATERTHRUSH was found along the east dyke at the
Reifel Bird Sanctuary in Delta.

A BAIRD?S SANDPIPER and 2 SEMIPALMATED PLOVERS were
at the Serpentine Fen Wildlife Area in Surrey.


Sightings for Tuesday, August 19th

Shorebirds of note included 8 RED-NECKED PHALAROPES and 4
WILSON?S PHALAROPES at the Highway 17 pond in Delta just
north of Deltaport Way; a WILLET and a WHIMBREL along the
Tsawwassen ferry jetty; a RUDDY TURNSTONE and 2 BAIRD?S
SANDPIPERS among more than 6000 WESTERN SANDPIPERS and
1000 BLACK-BELLIED PLOVERS near the foot of Boundary Bay in
Delta; a SOLITARY SANDPIPER and 2 BAIRD?S SANDPIPERS at
the Iona Island sewage ponds in Richmond; and a LONG-BILLED
CURLEW and a MARBLED GODWIT at Blackie Spit in Surrey.
Also off Blackie Spit were about 40 COMMON TERNS.

The LESSER GOLDFINCH was seen again at the seed feeders at
2093 Topaz Street in Abbotsford.
A SOLITARY SANDPIPER was seen in Vancouver?s Stanley Park near
the stone bridge at the west end of Lost Lagoon.


Sightings for Monday, August 18th

Three RUDDY TURNSTONES and three RED-NECKED PHALAROPES
were seen near the foot of 96th Street on Boundary Bay in Delta.


Sightings for Sunday, August 17th

An ANNA?S HUMMINGBIRD was seen at 2100 Bowser in North Vancouver.


Sightings for Saturday, August 16th

A GRAY CATBIRD and 7 TURKEY VULTURES were seen at the east
foot of 104th Avenue in Surrey, near the Barnston Island ferry landing.
