Hi Tweets,

For my final birding day of my extra long weekend I had the pleasure of
birding the Lummi Indian Reservation in Whatcom County with Joan Bird.
While the gray skies and periodic squalls made for soggy birding, the area
was fun to bird. We spent most of our time cruising the fields in the area
of North & South Red River Road, Sandy Point, Golf Course Slough and to
quick trip around Gooseberry Point with lot of birds in the passage between
Portage Island.

Highlight of the day was 14 LAPLAND LONGSPURS at the edge of Hillarie road
in the cornfield stubble. They were loosely associated with an American
Pipit flock when we first found them. This was also the main location for
the large Trumpeter Swan flock of about 80 birds. The other highlight was
a Northern Shrike on the other side of the road, who appeared to be quite
interested in all the pipits and longspurs.

Off of Gooseberry Point we had all 3 Scoters, Long-tailed Ducks, both
Goldeneyes, Harlequin Ducks and Red-breasted Mergansers.

Sandy Point produced Dunlin and Black Turnstones, along with flyby Snow and
Brant Geese sightings.

Many thanks to Joan for showing me around a special place.
