Just a few birds of note today that started very frosty but reached into the
40s in some sunny spots. There was a Long-tailed Duck sitting in the Para
settling (potato) pond, where water was about half frozen. I followed up a
report of cranes still in the area, and at noon north of Road 11 west of SR
262 a disked corn field had 55 Sandhill Cranes plus a single Greater
White-fronted Goose. A few Northern Shrikes scattered around, and yesterday
some Am Tree Sparrows in the usual grassy marsh areas of Columbia NWR.
