This morning I searched the Cedar River Mouth Trail Park (could also be
called Boeing Smoke Break Park) from 9-10 AM and missed the Palm Warbler,
although I am glad to see it was observed later by Evan Houston. Present
were goldfinches, pine siskins, one yellow rumped warbler, both goldeneyes,
common mergansers, and a blizzard of bushtits.



At Samish Flats 1-2 PM between the east and west 90 degree turns, I observed
a half dozen rough winged hawks-a new bird for me-on power lines, barns and
fenceposts. Red tailed hawks were present as well. At the west 90 were at
least a dozen northern harriers as well as several great blue herons.



At Skagit Flats I travelled down Valentine Rd but became disoriented in the
area where the blue jay and white throated sparrow had been seen. I was
unable to raise them. Off the dike at the end of Rawlins Rd 230-330 PM I
watched a half dozen short eared owls hunting in the brush and logs between
the dike and Puget Sound. A lot of northern harriers were also present.



Weather was great-views of Mt Baker from all angles. In some respects a
raptorous day.
