This afternoon I birded along Big Hanaford Rd. It rained most of the time until about 2:45, then it quit and the sun came out. I saw the 2 White-tailed Kites, 1 Eurasian Wigeon, 1 Short-earred Owl, and the Canvasbacks that Jerry Swena had reported yesterday, though he had 2 owls. I parked at the half circle parking area past the steam plant. I scanned with my scope the fields across the road for about 45 minutes looking for any sign of owls, but none were to be found. At 3:30pm I looked down the road (east) and the stripped hill on the right,I saw a bird flying erracticly. I put my scope on it and there was the Short-earred Owl hunting. Other birds seen while scanning the fields were;

Bald Eagle - 1
Red-tailed Hawk - 5
American Kestrel - 1
Western Meadowlark - 3 mixed in with the Starlings
Dunlin - 15
Ring-necked Duck - lots
Wood Duck - 2 (in a pond by Halliday Rd.)
