Tweets,

This afternoon at about 3:25 I observed a Grey phase adult GYRFALCON take a mallard in of all places (really weird) the edge of a "puddle" pond at the I405/NE 8th interchange (NE Corner across the north bound ramp that runs in front of Group Health). My office overlooks the area and I had spotted what I thought was a Peregrine perched on the edge of the Group Health building and had just gotten a binocular view confirming, no this is a Gyr, when the bird dropped into the interchange. I quickly ran downstairs and crossed the overpass. The Gyr was plucking the duck breast and belly and appeared to be eating breast meat and maybe the liver. I watched for 5 minutes and came back to the office to post. Almost dark now and I haven't seen the bird fly out or go to roost, but it was out of site for at least 10 minutes while I made my way back to my office. Hopefully it will stick around/reappear tomorrow. I'll be watching for sure.

Good Birding
